The Houston Art Salon (HAS) was founded by a group of Christian artists in Houston in May 2025. Inspired by the Paris salon tradition, we meet regularly to share our learning experiences, encourage each other in our practice, and promote the role of fine art in society. Our activities include weekly studio life drawing and painting sessions, monthly member meetings, hosting or supporting local art exhibitions, and sponsoring drawing/painting workshops by nationally renowned guest artists.
We welcome all artists who love drawing and painting from life to join our salon community and walk together in the pursuit of beauty and truth in art. We hope that the artwork and various activities created by this group will bring abundant joy to the member artists and blessings to society at large.
Our Meetings
A highlight of the Houston Art Salon is our life model drawing and painting sessions offered twice weekly at the HAS studio located near Rice University. This provides an unparalleled opportunity for artists to hone their technique in a supportive and intimate environment.
We also gather monthly for a group critique during which all members are encouraged to share their recent work and provide constructive criticism to one another.

MAY 2025
Houston Art Salon founded.
DECEMBER 2025
We hosted the inaugural HAS Exhibition at West Houston Christian Church to share the work of our member artists, beautifying the church and successfully attracting interest from the community.
MARCH 2026
We invited the nationally renown artist Garin Baker to give a weeklong life figure drawing and painting workshop at the HAS studio, including a plein-air painting session at the Japanese Garden in the Hermann Park. It was a life-changing educational experience for our attendees.
